How to Connect Vizio Soundbar to Samsung TV – Do These Simple Steps

Connecting a Vizio soundbar to a Samsung TV can create some problems. These models don’t always connect the best for some reason. In all my years as an audio enthusiast, I’ve never seen a product pairing that was more difficult to work with.

However, you have options. Below, we’ll go over the two best options and the two worst options. You’ll learn how to connect Vizio soundbars to Samsung TVs no matter which configuration you’re using.

Rest assured the step-by-step instructions given below are very easy to follow and they don’t need a high level of technical knowledge. Be patient, and just apply them to your case, and chances are your issue will get resolved.

Connecting Your Vizio Soundbar to Your Samsung TV

There are several ways you can connect your Vizio Soundbar to your Samsung TV. Depending on the model of your soundbar and your TV, some methods work better than others. While some have had issues with these products, many have had success with the following methods.

First, you should try connecting your Vizio soundbar to your Samsung TV with HDMI ARC. This allows you to control the soundbar with your TV’s remote, so it’s ideal. Sometimes, however, these two don’t match up correctly.

If it fails, try connecting your Vizio soundbar to your Samsung TV using optical cables. This should give you the same audio quality as HDMI ARC. Unfortunately, you will need to use the soundbar’s remote control in this instance. Alternatively, you could purchase a separate universal remote that works on both devices.

Bluetooth is an option, but it is not recommended to connect your soundbar to your TV this way. The sound quality suffers, and the connection is not always stable.

RCA cables work as well, though they suffer from the same issues. The sound quality is very bad, and some newer TVs lack the ports for these RCA cables.

How to Connect Vizio Soundbar to Samsung TV via HDMI ARC

HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) is the best method to connect your Vizio soundbar to your Samsung TV. That’s because it allows you to use your TV remote to control both devices, and it offers the same sound quality as an optical connection.

The following steps will help you connect your Vizio soundbar to your Samsung TV:

  1. Make sure your Samsung TV uses HDMI ARC. Most newer Samsung TVs use HDMI ARC, but older TVs might not be able to use it.
  2. Once you are sure that your Samsung TV supports HDMI ARC, find an HDMI cable that is long enough to stretch between the Vizio soundbar and your Samsung TV. All HDMI cables will work for HDMI ARC – it’s a feature of the port itself, not the cord.
  3. Plug one end of your HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the back of your Samsung TV.
  4. Plug the opposite end of your HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the back of your Vizio soundbar. Make sure that the cord is long enough that there is some slack in it, and that it isn’t pulling at either port.
  5. Press the power button on your Vizio soundbar.
  6. Press the power button on your Samsung TV.
  7. Once both devices are completely powered on, you need to change the input settings on both. First, change the audio output on your Samsung TV to HDMI. This can be done in your TV’s audio settings menu.
  8. Choose ‘Input’ on the back of your Vizio soundbar. Select the ‘HDMI’ option on the input menu.
  9. Try to play sound on your TV. If you can hear the sound out of your Vizio soundbar, great! You can skip Step 10.
  10. If you aren’t hearing any sound, you’ll need to change to a more advanced setting on your Samsung TV. To do this, go to your TV’s settings menu, and then choose the ‘Sound Settings’ option. From here, choose ‘Expert Settings’. Now, you can change the HDMI/Digital Audio Output settings. They should read ‘PCM’ to start sending sound to the soundbar.

How to Connect Vizio Soundbar to Samsung TV Using Optical Cable

Optical cable offers lossless sound quality. It’s the second-best option for connecting your Vizio soundbar to your Samsung TV, but only because you will have to use separate remotes to control them.

Take the following steps if you want to connect your Vizio soundbar to your Samsung TV with optical:

  1. First, you’ll need an optical cable that is long enough to connect your TV to your soundbar. Most newer TVs have an optical port, so it should be simple to locate the port on the back of your Samsung TV.
  2. Remove the plastic covers from the prongs at the ends of the optical cables. Pull them off gently, making sure not to damage the delicate prongs in the process.
  3. Insert one end of the optical cable into the matching port on the back of your Samsung TV.
  4. Insert the opposite end of the optical cable into the appropriate port on your Vizio soundbar.
  5. At this point, you should power on both your TV and your soundbar.
  6. Once both devices are powered up, it’s time to change the connection settings. Using your soundbar remote, press the ‘input’ button and select ‘Optical’.
  7. Turn your TV speakers off from the audio menu on your soundbar.
  8. Change the Digital Audio Out settings to Bitstream or Dolby Digital, whichever is available.
  9. If you can hear sound from your Vizio soundbar after attempting to play something, you’re set to go! If not, refer to Step 10.
  10. If there is no sound coming from the soundbar, you’ll need to change another setting on your Samsung TV. Go to TV Settings > Sound Settings > Expert Settings. From here, change the HDMI/Digital Audio Output Settings to ‘PCM’. This should fix the issue.

How to Connect Vizio Soundbar to Samsung TV via Bluetooth

Connecting your soundbar via Bluetooth is simple, but it isn’t as reliable as HDMI ARC or Optical. Still, if you want to take advantage of this option, here’s how.

  1. With your Vizio soundbar plugged in and powered on, press and hold the Bluetooth button on the control panel. You can also choose the option on your remote, if available.
  2. Make sure that your TV is also powered on. Go to your TV’s Bluetooth menu. You’ll want your Bluetooth on and searching for devices.
  3. On your Samsung TV’s Bluetooth pairing menu, you should find the Vizio Soundbar listed. It will probably be listed by the model number. Select it, and your devices should be linked.

How to Connect Vizio Soundbar to Samsung TV Using RCA Cable

If you must connect your Vizio soundbar to your Samsung TV with an RCA cable, follow these steps. Be advised that this isn’t the best method, but it will work in a pinch.

  1. You should have a red-and-white audio cable. You should also make sure that your Samsung TV and Vizio soundbar both have RCA ports, which are represented as red-and-white holes labeled as ‘Audio Out’.
  2. Plug the white cable into the white port on both devices. Then, plug the red cable into the red port on both devices.
  3. Turn your soundbar on and use the remote to choose ‘AUX’ as your input method.
  4. Use the ‘menu’ button on your soundbar remote to open a new menu on your TV screen. This is the menu for the soundbar.
  5. Select the audio section of the menu. From here, turn the TV Speakers off.
  6. Further down the menu, toggle the Analog Audio Out to ‘Fixed’ if you want to control the volume of the soundbar separately. Select ‘Variable’ instead if you want to adjust your soundbar volume along with your TV volume.

Final Verdict

If you can, try to connect your Vizio soundbar to your Samsung TV with HDMI ARC cable or optical. Use Bluetooth and RCA connections only as a last resort. I have seen cases where this is actually the solution. So just try this last one and see if that works. You may have to troubleshoot further to get these devices to work together, as they are notorious for not connecting correctly.
